SWOV in the Dutch media Road casualties 2010
On 18 April, Statistics Netherlands and the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment  presented the number of road fatalities in 2010: 640. SWOV reacted to this figure by expressing its concern about the quality of the accident registration by the police. The Dutch newspapers and magazines Elsevier, Trouw, De Gelderlander, De Telegraaf and NRC Handelsblad published theSWOV reaction. SWOV director Fred Wegman was also interviewed on the NOS Radio 1 News and the Radio 2 programme Knooppunt Kranenbarg.
  Demerit points licence
At the end of March, it became known that the Public Prosecution Service advises the minister of Infrastructure and the Environment and the minister of Safety and Justice to introduce the demerit points licence for all drivers. Until now only novice drivers have a demerit points licence in the Netherlands. On 11 April, the Dutch newspaper Financieele Dagblad published an article about the demerit points licence in which SWOV was mentioned. The article prompted several other media, among which Nu.nl, Telegraaf,  AD and the press agencies NOVUM and GPD, to pay attention to this topic. On 14 April, the story was continued and NOS announced that often the demerit points are not registered on the licences of novice drivers. SWOV published a Position about the road safety effects of the demerit points system.
